An interview with Vincent Faber and UWCSEA scholars

For eight years, the Trafigura Foundation has partnered with the United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA) to offer full scholarships to young survivors from the 2004 tsunami that devastated the Indonesian region of Aceh. The UWCSEA’s International Baccalaureat programme offers an excellent and complete education, focused not only on improving the classical academic skills, but also on shaping the students into responsible adults involved in the world they live in.

On 5th July 2017, in occasion of the Future Leaders’ event in Singapore, 8 scholarship holders were re-united to share their experience about the role that international education played in their lives and the importance it will assume for the future development of their home country. Vincent Faber, Executive Director of the Trafigura Foundation, was also present to meet them.

The online newspaper Jakarta Globe interviewed the Foundation’s director and reported the thoughts of the scholars, who all agree with the idea that investing in youth and higher education is fundamental to trigger social development in Indonesia.
