Bateau Genève, Switzerland
The Boat “Bateau Genève”, is
a social endeavour with a specific skills-building scheme for
people marginalized out of poverty. The Bateau Genève welcomes
people in need (homeless, undocumented people, migrants). Its
privileged location (an antique steam boat moored in the centre of
Geneva) first allows a strong interaction with the city life, hence
provides a good basis to the social reintegration process, and
second offers excellent grounds for skills-building through an
employment scheme
The activities of the Bateau Genève are
structured around three main components:
- Catering for people in need (free
breakfasts and dinners served to 150+ people every day)
- Social support for people facing major
social problems
- Reintegration of marginalized people
through skills-building working schemes. Benefieciaries are
employed in the boat’s “buvette” which sells light meals from May
to September, and in the maintenance and renovation works for the
boat. Jobs cover cooking, serving, catering, carpentry, welding,
electricity, plumbering,…
