Alive and Kicking - Zambia and Ghana
Footballs, Made in Africa, by Africa, for Africa.
The ultimate purpose of Alive & Kicking is to provide
footballs for children in Africa, jobs for adults and health
education through sports, through a sustainable football-making
entreprise.
Alive & Kicking’s work is based on the
combination of social business (a football stitching manufacture)
and lasting economic and social development by providing hand
stitched sports balls – stitched in Kenya and Zambia – for children
who don’t have balls to play with, by creating jobs for previously
unemployed adults, and by promoting health awareness through
sport. The HIV/AIDS education & prevention programme runs
parallel to their production activities and reaches out to both the
workforce and to the recipients of the balls.
The originality of this project as well as the entrepreneurial
spirit with which it has been designed and is being developed makes
it worth being supported by the Foundation.
The Board approved to support Alive and Kicking with a 3-year
support for the development of a new football stitching enterprise
in Ghana, similar to the one in Zambia which we had supported in
2010/2011 and which has proven very successful.
