Care for People Living with
HIV/AIDS
Through a local organization, the
"Centre de Réflexion et d'Initiatives pour la Promotion de la
Santé" (CRIPS), Initiative Développement (ID) runs a care
centre for people living with HIV/AIDS. The public health system
remaining unfortunately under-resourced, most of the patients in
Togo are taken care of by the civil society and the NGO network.
This particular programme, which started in 2008, works in the Bé
district, in Lomé and offers the following services:
- HIV testing and screening,
- Psycho-social support and nutritional aid
- Medical care and free access to treatment (supply of
anti-retro viral drugs).
The patients flow under regular
follow up at mid 2011 was 890. The total number of ARV-treated
patients was 565.
ID's involvement also aims at
giving CRIPS technical guidance, with governance and management
support, with a view to make this NGO self-sustainable and
autonomous on the longer term.
CRIPS has also started to grant
micro loans in order to initiate Income Generating Activities to 50
women infected by HIV.
As a continuation of the
Foundation’s initial 3-year support of the CRIPS (2008-2010), the
Board granted another 3-year support under a progressive
phasing-out scheme over 2011-2014.
