PACES, Palestine
Promoting Sports Among Youth
Since June 2006, The Palestinian
Association for Children's Encouragement of Sports (PACES) works at
developing sports programmes to Palestinian boys and girls, aged
8-16, thus offering them constructive and healthy activities which
are uneasy to find elsewhere in the country. By doing this, PACES
contributes to get the children out of idleness in the streets
where they can easily be caught in the prevailing regional
violence, to provide them with educational support and to transmit
a number of values essential for their future lives.
The social status of the girls is
also highly impacted through PACES' undiscriminating gender
approach. To date, it is more than 5,700 children in
some 57 cities all over Palestine who benefit from
PACES sport programmes and
activities.
Thanks to the Trafigura Foundation
support in 2008, PACES has been able to send a group of 30 young
girls and boys to international youth sport tournaments in Italy
and Norway, under the supervision of 10 adult coaches. The
Foundation has also granted funds for one month of coaching in
Palestine.
In 2009, a new donation has been
allocated to their coaching programme and for allowing them to send
several teams to the International Youth Tournament in Norway,
during the summer 2009.
The Board agreed to a continued
support until 2012.
