London Charity Committee (UK)
Even a Smile is an Act of
Charity
The London Charity Committee (LCC)
exists to assist charitable programmes supported by London
Staff.
Funds are raised through initiatives organised
by the LCC and individual employees, which are then matched by
funds from the Trafigura Foundation. In 2010 approximately
£65,000.00 was donated to various charities.
In addition, the LCC seeks to get one UK
charity supported directly by the Foundation each year.
Each year staff are invited to nominate
charities which they feel strongly about, and which meet the
criteria of the Foundation for direct funding. The whole of
London Staff then vote for a winner, and the most popular charity
or programme is put forward to the Foundation to be supported.
This process gives the wider staff an
opportunity to have charities which are dear to them supported, and
gives the final choice of charity a legitimacy which is hoped will
encourage continued involvement.

KIDS COMPANY
Kids Company was the 2010 winner of the London Staff vote and as
a result was duly taken up as recipient of funds direct from the
Foundation to the total of £90,000.00. Kids Company is a London
based charity committed to providing inclusive, child-focused and
holistic support services to vulnerable children and young people.
They currently support approximately 12,000 neglected, abused and
deprived children through inner city school programmes, street
level children’s centres and post-sixteen educational programmes.
Over the course of 2010 the LCC facilitated a number of volunteer
opportunities for employees including the ‘Colour a Child’s Life’
projects in which the living conditions of some of the children
were transformed by the cleaning, painting and decorating efforts
of Trafigura employees. Staff also accompanied children on a trip
to the London Zoo and helped at a Christmas party.

MOUSETRAP THEATRE PROJECTS
Winner of the 2011 London Staff vote and recipient of funds
direct from the Foundation, Mousetrap Theatre Projects is a charity
dedicated to providing opportunities to young people with limited
resources, limited support or disabilities to engage in the world
of theatre. They devise programmes that use theatre as a catalyst
to explore ideas, learn new skills, develop creativity and gain a
new perspective, opening doors to young people who might otherwise
consider London’s rich cultural heritage closed to them.
On Tuesday 15th February the LCC
arranged for Susan Whiddington the Director of Mousetrap to hold an
‘Audience with Session’ at the London office to explain a bit more
about the charity and answer any questions that London Staff
had.
To date the LCC has set up the following
volunteer opportunities with Mousetrap Theatre Projects and hopes
to develop further more in-depth programmes and activities whereby
volunteers can use their particular interests and skills to support
young people:
7th April 2011 volunteers to
accompany approximately 200 secondary school children to the
‘Umbrellas of Cherbourg’ production and post show talk.
13th April 2011 volunteers to
accompany approximately 100 secondary school children to the
‘Circolombia’ production and post show talk.

Fundraising Activities Organised by the
LCC
IN 2009:
RCUK CHARITY SEVENS, 10TH SEPTEMBER 2009
Last year Trafigura hosted a hugely successful charity rugby sevens
tournament in association with RCUK,
raising £100,000 for our selected charity, Demelza House. The event
will be held again this year at Richmond Rugby Club on 10
September, and with the help of our staff and counterparties we
hope to make
the event even larger than before, supporting all of our chosen
charities. This event is vital in generating
charity funding, and our three primary charities will be present on
the day to promote their causes. This year’s event will also
include touch rugby, opening the event to mixed teams from the oil
industry. Designer kits, professional coaching and elite team mates
will all be on offer to the entered teams, and of course the winner
will receive the prestigious Trafigura Cup at the glamorous post
match dinner.

THE WILLOW CUP
The Willow Cup is a charity football tournament on behalf of
the Willow Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the quality
of life of seriously ill young adults (aged 16 to 40), by providing
excursions that are entirely the choice of the individual, making
dreams come true. The Willow Cup is a knock-out tournament
held in Amsterdam in March, and in each of the last three years
Trafigura has entered at least one squad,
formed of employees from the Netherlands, London and beyond. Our
players are delighted to be able to raise awareness of such a
worthwhile charity in such a fun way, and were proud to raise the
winner’s trophy for the first time in 2009!

HAARLEM HALF MARATHON
Last year Trafigura entered 13
runners in this Dutch event, from the London and Lucerne offices in
addition
to Amsterdam. This year the event takes place on 27 September, and
we would like to have at least as many
runners again. The Dutch Make-a-Wish Foundation, Haus Hagar
and Plusport were the local Lucerne charities beneficiaries
of last year’s sponsorship.
CYCLE EUROPE FOR AUTISM, MAY & JUNE 2009
The National Autistic Society has organised two long-distance,
multi-county bike rides, and Trafigura would like to show our
support by entering teams of cyclists and raising as much
sponsorship as possible. The events take place as follows:
- London to Paris, 15-18 May 2009
300km in 3 days along quiet country roads and pretty
villages.
- 5 Countries, 5-8 June 2009
A challenging road ride of 450km starting in West Sussex, taking in
the beauty of Flanders and
Waterloo en route to Aachen.
There will be a minimum fundraising target for all participants of
£550 for the London to Paris ride and £600 for the 5 Countries
ride, which will be matched by the LCC. Clearly cyclists must
prepare physically for the event, but this is a great way to get
fit and raise vital funding for one of our chosen charities. On yer

25th April 2010
In 2010 five Trafigura employees ran the
London Marathon on Sunday 25th April to raise money for
National Autistic Society (NAS), a charity dedicated to providing
support for individuals with autism and their families. It started
off a bit wet, but turned into a fantastically warm sunny day which
certainly helped the runners over the finish line. The London
Marathon is one of the top 5 international road races with 36,000
runners and is world renowned for its festival atmosphere and its
fund raising success. Thanks to those who came out to support the
Trafigura runners! They succeeded in raising approximately £8,000

LCC Christmas Calendar, December
2010
The LLC created a 2011 calendar, with 12
departments across the business submitting photos that were then
collated and professionally made into a calendar for sale to London
Staff. Approximately 150 calendars were produced and sold for
a profit of almost £500. The generosity of London Staff was
again in evidence with both the willingness of staff to purchase
the calendar and the time and effort put in by staff in creating
each of the monthly photos (special kudos to IT, August for anyone
that is interested). The funds raised were donated to our
charity of the year, Kids Company.
LCC Christmas Party Auction,
16th December 2010
At the London Christmas party a number of
items were generously donated to the charity committee for
raffle. Although the raffle was successful, many of the items
were re-donated by the winners and put up for auction.
The funds raised by these auctions was substantial (in excess of
£4,000) and of course was matched by the Trafigura
foundation. This proved a fitting end to the year of the
London Charity Committee and the support for Kids Company.
