What we do

Our Aims and Goals

The Trafigura Foundation formalizes all our charitable and community-focused projects and activities, and co-ordinates the local initiatives taken by our local offices. We ensure that the objectives and benefits of these activities are maximized, captured and reported.

We offer all Trafigura employees across the world engaging in charitable activities the resources they need and encouragement they deserve.

We give our chosen non-profit organizations and charities the means to develop their programmes and make a real difference for their beneficiaries.

We aim at having a genuine and positive impact on the societies, communities and projects we support. Our mission is to create lasting and long-term change.

Fields of Action

Following a worldwide employee survey, the two issues that generated most support are education and the environment. The Foundation prioritises initiatives in these areas, but also encompasses the themes of health and disability, rural development, social inclusion and social entrepreneurship. We favour integrative approaches, as poverty or exclusion often cannot be tackled through one single perspective alone.

The projects we support are truly global - from helping vulnerable groups in the developed world, to under-privileged communities in the developing world. Whilst we favour projects in countries where the Trafigura Group operates its business, allowing us to develop and nurture strong relationships with our employees, we also enjoy partnerships in other regions where needs meet our criteria for support.

We use criteria, objectives and priorities that reflect the Foundation's values to select the proposals we support. We closely monitor these programmes to ensure they meet the agreed goals and plans.

The Fundación Integración Comunitaria in Peru

In Peru, a specific foundation has been established in 2005 with the support of Cormin, Cormin Callao, Catalina Huanca and Condestable, all Trafigura Group entities. The Fundación Integración Comunitaria(FIC) supports a wide range of projects in the communities surrounding their mining assets, in the fields of health, education, rural development and the environment. The FIC is also dedicating significant funds to sheltering and reconstruction programmes in the aftermath of the earthquake which struck Peru in summer 2007. You can read more about FIC's project in the 'Projects' section.

Our Charity Committees

One of the essential dimensions of the Foundation is to foster the involvement of the Trafigura people around the world in charitable and philanthropic endeavours, and to encourage and support all the initiatives they may take for underprivileged communities in their local or regional environment.

In most of our main offices, the employees willing to engage voluntarily in such initiatives have established a Charity Committee, to develop fundraisers and to manage the local community programmes. It is the Foundation’s policy to systematically match the funds raised by the Charity Committee through their own efforts, thus doubling the financial resources made available to their selected charitable projects.

We are proud to count currently with 10 such committees: in London (UK), in Lucerne and Geneva (Switzerland), in Stamford and Houston (USA), in Shanghai (China), in Johannesburg (South Africa), in Lubumbashi (DRC), in Lima (Peru) and in Singapore.

The Charity Committees can also be most useful, for the organisations supported themselves, as a supplementary channel to raise awareness on their work and achievements, as well as a potential way to secure complementary resources.
