It is always a special moment when effort meets success, especially when it concerns a valuable social enterprise changing many lives. This is why we are more than happy to communicate the outstanding recognition received by one of our partners, Alive and Kicking, which has gained the prestigious “Social Enterprise UK International Impact Award” in November 2016. The award was sponsored by the British Council and the judging committee was composed of a cross section of social investors and sector experts.

Alive and Kicking makes durable sports balls in Kenya, Zambia and Ghana in order to achieve its social aims of creating fairly paid jobs for local people (often unemployed and with disabilities) and using sport to raise awareness about preventable disease.

The innovative model developed by Alive and Kicking has recently achieved another success: Fossil Group, the international accessories’ brand, decided to entrust the management of surplus bags to the social organization, with the aim of giving a second life to leather materials by turning them into durable balls.

“We are absolutely delighted to be able to partner with Fossil to make a great, new product from what was about to be landfill” declares Glenn Cummings, CEO of Alive and Kicking. “It adds an environmental angle to Alive and Kicking’s work, while also raising our profile by selling our footballs across the US and Europe through Fossil, a massive global brand. This order alone will create 20 new jobs, turning thousands of bags in to thousands of balls, whilst generating additional funds for our health work.”
